It has been awhile since I've posted some pictures from vintage children's books-I have so many to show you but this book is one of my all time favorites.

Richard Scarry's The Animals' Merry Christmas- a Golden Book c. 1950. I have such a soft spot for animals in houses.

Spring Is Here

Happy Spring! It's still a bit snowy here so I thought I'd share some pictures from a 1950's science education series titled Spring Is Here.

Mosaic Monday

I love all of the colors in this book-it's titled Stories About Sally and was illustrated by Connie Moran, Anne Fleur and Raymond Vartanian- c.1949.

Golden Books

I've been meaning to share these thrifted children's books with you

I'm a sucker for picture dictionarys. This one is My First Golden Dictionary, illustrated by Richard Scarry c. 1957.


The second book, Baby's House, was illustrated by Mary Blair c. 1950. It takes you through each room and is "A child's first book about his house".


The last Golden Book is titled Whatever Happens to Baby Horses? Illustrated by Virginia Parsons c. 1965. I would have loved this book when I was little-who am I kidding, I love this book now :)

Ed Emberley

I've seen lots of Ed Emberley on blogs and some Japanese websites and was excited when I literally stumbled upon a whole section of his at my library. I remember checking out some of his books when we had library in elementary school. Library was my favorite "special" with art coming in at a close second. Does anyone remember the book of haunted old wives tales where the woman fell asleep while sunbathing and a spider crawled up her nose and hatched eggs? Doctors thought she was going  crazy and couldn't find out what was wrong with her until she scratched open her skin and there were spider eggs right underneath the skin? Nasty. My brother and I had that thing checked out every other week. Gym was fun- lots of good memories playing dodge ball with that big fluffy ball that looked like a giant pompom. For me, music was the worst of all. We had a craggily old music teacher who smelled like mothballs and made us sing and tap our sticks to records. Over... and... over... again...
 

Mother Goose

I've been cleaning house and stumbled upon two vintage Mother Goose books that I haven't shown you yet. The first is called The Big Book of Mother Goose(c.1953) illustrated by Alice Schlesinger.


The second book was illustrated by Gyo Fujikawa and is titled Mother Goose(c. 1968).
