Christmas Thrift

I found this advent calendar at an antique store a few years ago on the bottom of a pile of old magazines and was instantly in love. Advent calendars are one of my favorite things about Christmas.

It is hard to see in this picture but days 7 and 8 are my favorite. I think the pink bassinet and cuckoo clock are so sweet.

Here are the thrifted ornaments that I told you about-our tree this year is very fat so much of it had to be squashed against the wall in order for it to fit. I may not have listened to this reasoning while picking out the tree. So here it is for the record...honey you were right...(but it is pretty)!

Nigella

Did anyone else watch Nigella's Christmas Kitchen this morning? I am loving so much all of the white lights strung throughout the entire house. The show is a three part series on the Food Network-the last of the series airs on December 16 at 10:30am. If you missed the first two episodes, they can be viewed here-be sure to watch for the lighted star garland that is wrapped around the stairway banister-swoon!

The Halls Are Decked

It was such a great day to pull out the Christmas decorations... the snow was swirling, the Christmas movies were Tivoing, the soup was bubbling, the dogs were snoring...

The Animals' Merry Christmas

It has been awhile since I've posted some pictures from vintage children's books-I have so many to show you but this book is one of my all time favorites.

Richard Scarry's The Animals' Merry Christmas- a Golden Book c. 1950. I have such a soft spot for animals in houses.

In the Mix

It is starting to get cold and windy here-definitely time for scarves, mittens and holiday mix cds! I love the process of finding the songs, putting them in order and designing the packaging. The song cards have warped a bit despite being flattened for a few days-maybe I used too much glue? I made envelopes out of parchment paper and will seal them with heavy white stickers decorated with candy colored markers. It's beginning to look a lot like a pastel Christmas. Have a great weekend!

Soft Trees

It is amazing what you can get done when procrastination hits. Clearly, I should have been sorting out our office to make room for the nursery but look what I accomplished instead-some soft trees from Stephanie's pattern that she shared here. I am literally sitting in a pile of books and papers so off I go-that is, unless I can find something else to distract me for a bit...

Rag Wreath

Have you noticed the arrival of Christmas commercials on tv today? I'm joining in the early holiday spirit to show you some Christmas crafts that I've been working on. This rag wreath was made for our friend who is throwing us a baby shower. I got the inspiration from this nice wreath but realized that I could make it myself for far less $$$! Two Christmas movies(Holiday Inn and Christmas in Connecticut) later, it was finished. Easy fashessy!
